Title: Reading Specialist, part-time
Start Date: early November
End Date: early June
Schedule: approximately 15 hours/week; M-Th/F, times negotiable
Salary and Benefits: $300-375/week (depending on experience), no benefits
About Sierra Expeditionary Learning School: SELS opened in the fall of 2010 as an independent public charter school serving 64 K-5 students in multi-age classrooms. In 2011, SELS added K/1 and sixth grade classrooms, and over the next two years will add additional classrooms until we serve approximately 200 students in K-8. SELS offers a small school environment (class sizes from 20-25) dedicated to academic excellence, diversity, and the building of character and community.
Job Description: Drawing on the principles, strategies, and resources of Expeditionary Learning, the Reading Specialist will provide intervention instruction to K-6 students primarily reading below grade level. This instruction may include both push in and pull out. Continual assessment and feedback on student achievement, and excellent collaboration and communication with classroom teachers, is required. Potential for Professional Development opportunities exists.
Must have the ability to:

Provide reading and language arts intervention for K-6 students

Conduct reading assessments using running records (DRA) and continuously track student learning

Communicate effectively with students and teachers; keep teachers informed of student progress
Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field

Current California Multi-Subject Teaching Credential (or in process of obtaining)

Reading and LA intervention, elementary up to 6th grade

Proficiency with running records assessment
