Williams Crew,

Thanks to everyone that came to the goal-setting conferences.  My hope is that your child will post these goals somewhere they will often see them, as a reminder of their main focus in school.  In the spring we will meet again to review their progress on the goals and revise them.
Your child will be bringing home a mid-semester progress report today.  Here is a description of the grades:

Academic subjects
4 = Exemplary
3 = Proficient
2 = Developing
1 = Beginning
Habits of work and character
4 = Consistently
3 = Often
2 = Sometimes
1 = Seldom
These progress reports reflect of you child’s current progress.  For example, if your child is getting a 3 in a subject, it means they are meeting my expectations to this point.  There is still much time for your child to continue to improve in that discipline and improve their score.  I have described the scoring to the students today so they should be able to give you more information.
A couple of parents asked about how I give feedback to students after a assignment.  I return the assignments to the students as soon as I get them corrected, and I encourage the students to file them back into their binder (to possibly use as a resource later).  If you would like to see your students work, make arrangements with your child to bring home the assignments they have completed or their entire binder (if they are keeping their assignments).
Other Notes:
Bear Walk Fundraiser:
The students have information for the Bear Walk fundraiser coming home today.  On Halloween the school will be participating in a walk-a-thon to raise money for the classrooms.  We will also need help from parents during the bear walk.  Please read through the form coming home, and let me know if you have any other questions.
SELS Summit day Oct 28:
Our crew will be getting a bus to drive us to rest area on the Sierra summit for our hike up Castle Peak.  We will not need any chaperones for the drive up or the hike, but we will need parent drivers for our crew to shuttle the students from the rest area on the Sierra Summit back to SELS at 1:30 after we are done.  If you are able to help shuttle the student please email Ashley (ashley.s.holm@gmail.com).
If you have any questions please let me know,
Zach
